Cubic boron nitride (CBN), an ultra-hard material, combines in oil and gas drilling both Direct rock breaking and Tool manufacturing Dual value. As a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) drill bit, it exhibits thermal stability exceeding 1200 K and, under high-speed cutting conditions, demonstrates wear resistance 2–3 times that of PDC bits, along with superior impact resistance, thereby significantly extending the service life of drill bits in complex formations. Meanwhile, CBN tools are also employed in the precision machining of load-bearing components—such as the journal bearings of roller cone drill bits—with hardness levels up to HRC 60, providing highly stable machining support for drill‑tool manufacturing.
