Cubic boron nitride is extremely hard, comparable to diamond but slightly less so. It is an electrical insulator yet an excellent thermal conductor. Also known as cubic boron nitride, it is a widely used industrial abrasive tool. To date, this material has not been found in nature; it is an ultra‑hard material synthesized artificially.
Characteristics: Cubic boron nitride (CBN) is an ultra-hard material whose hardness ranks second only to that of diamond. It not only exhibits many of diamond’s excellent properties but also boasts superior thermal stability and chemical inertness toward ferrous metals and their alloys. As an engineering material, it has been widely employed in the machining of ferrous metals and their alloys.
At the same time, thanks to its outstanding thermal, electrical, optical, and acoustic properties, it has found applications in a wide range of high‑tech fields, emerging as a promising functional material. It is suitable for use in binder systems based on resins, metals, and ceramics, can also be employed in the production of polycrystalline composite sintered bodies, and serves as a loose abrasive grain or an abrasive paste.
Due to its outstanding chemical and physical properties, black CBN has found widespread application as an ultra-hard abrasive in various machining sectors. Today, it has become an indispensable key material in industries such as automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering, and microelectronics, thereby attracting significant attention across these fields.
